FC Peli-Karhut ry

I was approached by teachers to create a new website for a local football club at the beginning of 2024. The football club wanted to renew its old website and move it to a completely new domain.

The club's old website had been implemented through Yhdysavain but they found the interface and the page design very confusing and challenging. We decided to move the site to WordPress because of its user-friendly interface and the features it offers.

Making the Website

When working on the website, the most important thing was to make it easy to read and maintain. Given the client's level of expertise, the maintenance of the pages had to be as straightforward as possible. As the website would be completely handed over to the customer without me managing it further on, I also needed to train future users on how to use the website.

Project Progress

The project started by looking at the football club's old website, reviewing the content and designing a new website based on the old one. I created the Figma design for the new website and presented it to the client. Based on the plan, we acquired a new domain for the client and prepared the website. Then I started working on the website. The photos and graphic design was provided by the client, so my task was only to implement the structure of the website. The client, in turn, gave me the information they wanted to enter into the website, which they wanted to import from the old website or update.

From time to time, we held team meetings to review the status of the project, update each other and look at the next tasks. The club also asked me to create flyers for them to market the club and to create some social media advertisements.

Overview on the project

The project was delayed by three months compared to the original plan. The website was originally planned to go live in the summer, but was not ready until September. The reasons for this were the busyness of the club and the summer competitions season, which kept coaches and parents both busy. The website was handed over to the club and they were instructed on how to update and maintain it. I created a manual for the club, explaining the Wordpress operating system and the most essential elements for them to maintain the website.

Challenges in the project included designing the website according to the needs of the club. The club has a separate adult team, which is its own club, and a children's club, which is FC Peli-Karhut. The website had to be available to both at the same time, so that they could add content and update it according to their own wishes.

However, working on the project was fun, even though it was a bit behind schedule. The club was happy with the new website and now want to maintain it better than their previous website.
