Project Echo

Project/Practical training

February 2024 - May 2024

Project Echo was a practical training project given by Nitro Games. The project had around ten students as participants.

About the project

Nitro Games presented the opportunity to join a project for practical training at our campus. I took interest in the project and joined the team. I was interesed since wanted to work with an established gaming company to gain realistic experience about game development projects and have something great in my CV. These chances are rare and wanted to take the opportunity.

Our team had a few meetings regarding the introduction of the project, the scope, the planning, and the roles of the participants. We laid out a plan and a roadmap on what we’re focusing on in the project, our goals and estimations of the time required for the project, and preparing a presentation of the plan to send it to Nitro Games for approval. The project got greenlit, and we got access to their resources for the project to begin working on it.

We had a few other meetings discussing about the game development and scheduling. We started working on the game and evaluated what needed to be done. We had a team that worked on the game during the summer, working on the programming, user experience and art. I’d be working on the project more during autumn, with making or refreshing textures, 3D models and overall looks of the game. I'd utilize my skills in 3D models and my strong suits in design. Although not being too familiar with it, I’d also be working on the sound of the game, if needed.

The programmers looked through the code and were debating if we should make the game from scratch or try to work out the old code and libraries. The game would've needed some design changes to give better user experience. These would've taken quite a lot of time, and we asked about our options of continuing the project from Nitro Games.

Unfortunately in the end, Nitro Games requested for the cancellation the project in May and we stopped the development of the game. The project was way more complicated than anticipated and would've taken longer to properly develop. It's an understandable decision.
