Take Shelter is an escape room game made for the Game project 1 course. At the beginning of the course, several groups were divided by choosing their preferred genre. We ended up in the puzzle genre together with our own small group, because we wanted to do our first game project together. We initially planned to make some kind of traditional puzzle type game, but the mention of an escape room inspired all of us and we started to design it.

MY PART IN THE PROJECT

My part in the project was to create all the graphics and create the smaller 3D models. All the 2D graphics found in the game are made in Photoshop and the 3D models I have created are made in 3ds Max and some in Blender.

I will talk more accurately about what I have created in the text below.

PUZZLES

Would escape room even be escape room without puzzles? No! Our game has a few different types of puzzles that keeps the game interesting. Some puzzles player can inspect more closely and some are there just to confuse the player.

2D: Most of the 2D puzzles are different kind of locks. The player has to search around the house for clues and figure out the code for the lock to open it. Other 2D puzzles can be different kind of papers.

3D: 3D puzzles are usually objects that have the number written on them. We also have some keys that player has to look for to open some doors and locks.

GRAPHICS

Diary and other books: Diary is our own mechanic that we wanted to add to the game. The point of the diary is to give clues to the player hidden in stories written by the players grandmother. The diary lets the player wtire notes on it if they wish to. The diary has a few different variants to fit the state of the game.

Other books are part of clues that the player has to look for. They can be picked up and inspected more closely. Each book has a few pages of text.

Other textures: Other textures added to the game consists of different kind of wood and tile textures. There is also a few wallpapers to make the rooms look nicer.
