I participated in gamejam called MehuJam #5
We ended up making a project about a cat stuck in a cone trying to break out from a weird world that is falling apart. The theme of the jam was "???"-world and typo. This project focuses heavily on the "???" -world part.
The first thing we did with the project was creating a very quick GDD to get us both on the same page with the project. We had decided our roles before the jam so we only lacked ideas. After hearing the theme and combining some toughts we had regarding it with Veera's idea of wanting to create a flappy bird style mechanic we started the project now known as Cone Breaks Out
My job in this project was making all the assets and animations. During the first day I started to design the main character by combining ideas and photos I found and quickly made a first desing for cone cat that we ended up keeping. Using the clean, colored version of the design, I made 3 animations: idle, walk, and flying using my beloved ClipStudioPaint Pro.
During the second day I made a quick fog shader to start the day and after created some initial designs for the "levels/islands". I first tried to do a tilemap because it seemed reasonable considering that this was a 2D game, but ended up just drawing the islands as a whole since that was way faster and easier. This way I also got to draw the islands exactly as I wanted. I did realize that drawing every single item would be time consuming so I just ended up making all islands two layers: the island and it's background. I sketched and drew two Islands during the second day, as well as the collectable air bubbles. UI planning was also started with some elements done like health/air bar and an island pointer.
During the third day I finished all the islands with the same logic of dividing them to three elements and made the remaining UI elements like the shop and all buttons etc. I didn't have much else during this time as we were pretty much done. As the time was closing up I realized we didn't have a picture/logo for our project so I made one that is now used in our itch.io page. A link to our finished jam game: Cone Breaks Out (itch.io)
